What makes us different

Taught by people who write software for a living.

We pair volunteer professional software developers, people who build software every day and want to make a difference, with our community code clubs. Students don't just follow a curriculum. They learn how real developers think, work through problems with them, and see where computer science can take them.

Are you a developer? Volunteer with a club.

Why it matters

Changing the image of what a programmer looks like.

Computer science opens doors, but not every student gets to walk through one. Together with local and national partners, we're working to close the gender gap in technology and change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.

We charge a small fee for clubs. When they were free, too many students signed up and stopped coming; a fee means families commit, and the seats go to students who show up. The fee covers only part of the cost, and donations keep it low for the next student.

Questions families ask

How are you different from other code clubs?

Our clubs are led by professional software developers. We pair volunteers who build software for a living, and want to make a difference, with community code clubs, so students learn from people who do the work every day, not just from a curriculum.

How much do clubs cost?

A small fee per club. The fee covers only part of what a club costs to run; donations from people who want more kids in Colorado and New Mexico to get a start in computer science cover the rest.

Why is there a fee? Clubs used to be free.

When our clubs were free, too many students signed up and then stopped coming, and seats sat empty that other students wanted. A small fee means families commit, students show up, and every seat goes to someone who'll use it.

Does my child need to know how to code already?

No experience is needed. Clubs start from the beginning, and students who already code get more to do.

Who can join?

Students ages 11 and up. Our clubs began as Girls Who Code clubs for girls in grades 6 to 12, and we still work to close the gender gap in technology.

Can we sign up in the middle of a semester?

Yes. Registration stays open while there's room, so it's never too late to start.
